I've gotten several calls on my cell with no messages left. When I ring the number that shows on the caller ID, someone obviously from India, named Steve answered.
Upon inquiry, he again said his name was Steve and that he worked with Allied Interstate LLC. When I asked about the nature of his call, he wanted a number of identifying pieces of information before he would ever say the exact nature of contact. I finally gave him only my phone number, and he comes up with some bull story about me owing $570 to Capital One. Mind you, he never verified my name or address.
"Steve" was willing to settle for $300 if I paid today. I offered to contact Capital One myself, as this was obviously a mistake, and asked him for the account number, to which he replied he could not give it to me because of confidentiality reasons. Hilarious. This account was supposedly mine.
I said a few choice words and hung up the phone.
DON'T PAY THESE PEOPLE A DIME. And don't waste your time trying to get to the bottom of a mistaken debt when they are just everything up.
